Margaret loves belly dancing and had her first lesson at the age of twelve. Margaret studied for ten years with Donna of International Dance Discovery fame and performed with Banat Mara. She first studied American Tribal Style® with Angie Dinataman. She has taken workshops from Asharah, Ruby Jazayre, Shakira, Hipnotic, Eiko Kocher, and Valizan. She also practices to many belly dance DVDs. (You can find her collection and recommendations on the Classes page.)

In 2005 she joined forces with the Bloomington Area Arts Council to bring Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin's Tribal:Pura to Bloomington twice. Margaret has also collaborated with the BAAC in presenting Bloomington Belly Dances. In 2010, Margaret took over organizing events with Carolena Nericcio and Megha Gavin - General Skills for ATS and Tribal Village - 2012 - and organizing and Bloomington Belly Dances on her own. In 2012, Margaret received her Teacher Training in ATS® certificate from Carolena Nericcio.

Margaret has degrees in Theatre & Drama and Instructional Systems Technolgy from Indiana University. Her dramatic flair and production skills help her create opportunities for her troupe that are often not explored by traditional belly dancers. Margaret loves her troupe and is extremely grateful that her troupe members are dancing with her! (Especially when they indulge her love of Wizard Rock.) Different Drummer Belly Dancers has been the belly dance troupe at Gen Con Indy since 2004.

When not dancing, Margaret teaches computer applications for the Department of Kinesiology at IU. She lives with her beloved husband, Scott, two fun cats named Freya and Jackson, and a tank full of beautiful fish. Sometimes other cats visit for food and love such as Gandalf the Grey Cat, Fluffernutter, and Big Head Todd. Margaret spends her recreational time with friends and family reading, writing, exercising, watching TV and movies, and gaming.

Margaret teaches belly dance and always enjoys new and continuing students. She is very happy to be teaching at the Panache School of Ballroom & Social Dance and have taught at Windfall Dance Studio.

Margaret is thrilled that her troupe, Different Drummer Belly Dancers turned 10 years old in 2013.

Margaret finds this video by Rachel Brice to be inspiring.

This is also quite awesome too. :)

And because I teach I must share this Taylor Mali video. Not entirely safe for work, but oh so worth it.
